Thank you for your interest in Loyola University Chicago’s Bachelor of Arts in Dance. 

Admission to the Dance Major requires a two-part application process: 1) an application for admission to the University; 2) an application and audition/interview to the major.

Application to the Major:

Students can enter the Bachelor of Arts in Dance through two pathways:  

• Audition for the major either on campus or via video audition
• Transfer from a Dance minor to a major  
   

Video Audition: Please complete and submit this application by Sunday, MARCH 1 . Include a ballet foundations video, a two-minute solo of any style that you choose, and personal statement.

Video Submission Instructions:

• Upload your videos to YouTube or Vimeo
• Add the links to the application, including the password for private videos

Video Guidelines:

Video 1: Solo Composition (All Applicants)
 

• Please show a two-minute long choreographed solo
• May be of any technique or style you choose
• May be composed by the dancer or another choreographer

Video 2: Ballet Foundations (Video Only Audition - not required for in-person audition)

Barre work in flat shoes

• Pliés in all positions
• Tendus from 5th position
• Rond de jambe a terre
• Fondus with developpe’

 Ballet Foundations Center work in flat shoes

• Tendus with pirouettes en dehors and or en dedans
• Adagio
• If possible please include a traveling combination and petit allegro

Personal Statement (All Applicants):
 In addition to your video materials or interview, the dance faculty determine your alignment with the Dance program’s mission through reading your short essay. This statement should describe your goals as a dancer and your interest in Loyola’s Dance program.

Thank you for your interest in the Music Program at Loyola University Chicago. Application to the Music Major is a two-part process: an application for admission to the University and an application to audition for the major. If you have not completed the general application, please do so here.

For acceptance into the music major at Loyola University Chicago, students must complete this application and attend an in-person audition on Saturday, January 25, 2025 at 9:00am on the Loyola University Chicago Lakeshore Campus. As long as your Music Major application is complete, and you have been accepted to the University, you can expect to hear back from us by March 15 2025.   

Students unable to attend the in-person audition may submit a video audition or audition in person on an alternate date—please see "Scholarship Information" below. Please complete this application, indicate you are submitting a video audition, and submit your video audition according to the instructions listed in the application by March 1, 2025 to be considered for admission to the major.

Video Auditions
     Complete this application and submit a link to your video following the repertoire guidelines below. Please submit your application and video audition any time before March 1, 2025. As long as your Music Major application is complete, and you have been accepted to the University, you can expect to hear back from us by March 15 2025.

Scholarship Information
   While most scholarships at Loyola University Chicago come directly from the College of Arts and Sciences, the music department does award a few scholarships each year. To be eligible for music scholarships, students must audition IN PERSON before March 1, 2025. If January 25 is not a possible date, send an email to the Director of Music. Audition Repertoire
Voice (including students auditioning for the Vocal Performance or Liturgical Music Concentration) - two contrasting songs, with at least one in a foreign language. We will provide an accompanist, please bring music for the accompanist.
Instrumentalists - two contrasting pieces from the standard repertoire (Liturgical Music students can audition on piano or organ, as well as voice)
Jazz Studies Concentration -

• Saxophone / Trumpet / Trombone / Piano / Guitar / Vibraphone - Two contrasting pieces from the standard jazz repertoire including a 12-bar blues in F or Bb. Pianists, guitarists, and vibraphonists should demonstrate an ability to play both melodic material and chord voicings. Applicants are welcome to use play-along tracks; we will provide a Bluetooth speaker.
• Bass - Applicants should demonstrate an ability to walk a bass line for a 12-bar blues (in the key of Bb or F) and for Bb rhythm changes (the chord progression to “I Got Rhythm”). Please prepare one additional piece of your choice. Applicants are welcome to use play-along tracks; we will provide a Bluetooth speaker.
• Drum Set - Applicants should demonstrate basic time-keeping ability in the following styles at a variety of tempos: swing, bossa-nova, straight 8th Latin, rock/funk.

 To be considered for the Theatre scholarship at Loyola University Chicago, students must complete this application and attend an in-person audition/interview on Saturday, January 25, 2025. Typically, this event last between 4-6 hours.

Because entry into the major is not contingent upon auditioning, there are no additional audition opportunities, in person or otherwise, beyond Saturday, January 25, 2025.

• 10:00am: Theatre Program Orientation
• 11:00am: Auditions/Interviews begin

Audition Format
  Our Theatre Program is liberal arts based, values all aspects of theatre, and seeks students with a multiplicity of interests. Your scholarship audition may take the form of:

• Acting - 2 contrasting selections totaling 3 minutes. 1 can be a musical selection.
• Presenting a portion of an academic paper
• A sit-down interview and portfolio review of design, stage management, or technical theatre experience
• A combination of the above

Applicants will receive a confirmation email in January 2025 detailing the schedule of the day. Your specific audition time will be given to you upon check in on the day of the audition.
